ResMed VPAP COPD

Quick Review

Noninvasive ventilation designed to treat COPD

VPAP™ COPD can help clinicians overcome challenges associated with the unique needs of COPD patients—leading to better quality of life. Specifically, NIV has been shown to reduce recurrence of acute hypercapnic respiratory failure following an initial event by up to two-thirds in the first 30 days following the event.1

VPAP™ COPD helps overcome unique treatment challenges

  • Customized therapy settings make it easy to initiate therapy
  • Integrated oxygen entrainment support provides oxygen and warmed, humidified air in one line to improve secretion management
  • Configurable audio and visual alarms provide added security
  • EasyCare Online monitoring is ideal for post-discharge patient follow-up
  • Custom therapy settings optimized for COPD minimize hyperinflation and improve synchrony and comfort to increase compliance
  • Support for pressures up to 30 cm H2O helps treat patients with overlap syndrome or those requiring higher EPAP pressure to overcome intrinsic PEEP
  • Seamless transition from NIV therapy in the hospital to the home

Device settings optimized for COPD

COPD patients who require NIV have specific needs to ensure optimal ventilation. These patients often have difficulty exhaling air, which can lead to air trapping and hyperinflation. Maintaining synchrony and comfort for these patients is critical in getting them compliant on their therapy.

VPAP™ COPD’s custom therapy settings make initial setup of COPD patients quick and easy. The fast Rise Time, high cycle sensitivity and shortened Ti Max all contribute to minimizing hyperinflation and improving synchrony and comfort.

Note: These settings are provided as a guide and starting point for initial settings. Individual patients may require further adjustments based on their own conditions. Existing protocols within your facility should always supersede these baseline recommendations.

Description

ResMed VPAP COPD

More comfort and synchrony with VPAPâ„¢ COPD features

From setup to therapy management and monitoring, getting patients started and keeping them compliant is now easier and more intuitive than ever with VPAP COPD.

COPD Settings

TiControl™ allows clinicians to manage the patient’s inspiratory time according to their disease state.

Adjustable trigger and cycle sensitivities allow further customization at the beginning and end of each inspiration, which further improves patient–device synchrony.

ClimateLineMAX™ Oxy

COPD Settings

Ideal for patients who need supplemental oxygen, it neatly connects at the back of the device, removing the inconvenience of a separate tubing connection while allowing the oxygen to completely mix with warmed, humidified air.

It supports higher pressures and intelligently regulates temperature with the Climate Control algorithm to deliver a constant, comfortable temperature at the mask and reduce rainout.

H5iâ„¢ heated humidifier with Climate Control

COPD Settings

The device automatically detects the H5i ClimateLineâ„¢ tubing and provides the option of auto or manual control of humidity.

Better therapy outcomes with EasyCare Online

ResMed’s EasyCare Online therapy monitoring is a comprehensive solution that empowers you to help patients achieve better therapy outcomes and manage their condition post-discharge.

Usage reports make it easy to identify patients who are not following their treatment plan so you can proactively address issues.

Critical respiratory parameters provide additional insight into patient therapy:

  • Respiratory rate
  • Minute ventilation
  • Tidal volume
  • I:E ratio

VPAP COPD is indicated to provide noninvasive ventilation for patients weighing more than 30 lbs (13 kg) with respiratory insufficiency, such as that associated with hypercapnic COPD, or obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). VPAP COPD is intended for home and hospital use.

Note: COPD is defined as per the GOLD (Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease) classification and hypercapnia as CO2 >45 mm Hg. VPAP COPD is optimized for treatment of COPD patients without a backup rate. For patients who require a backup rate, the S9 VPAP™ ST-A with iVAPS is recommended.
